Dating back to the 15th century, Château Batailley is one of the oldest estates in Pauillac. Ch. Batailley is classified as a Cinquième Grand Cru du Médoc in the 1855 classification, i.e. a fifth growth. The estate is owned by the Castéja family today. 60 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (2%). The vines have an average age of 40 years and are planted at a density of 8,500 vines/ha. The assemblage for the grand vin typically includes at least 70% Cabernet Sauvignon. They also offer a second vin, Lions de Batailley, launched in 2015, and a third wine, Pauillac de Batailley, launched in 2019.
