2022 Pio Cesare Chardonnay Piodilei

Tasting note

Pale straw yellow colour. White and yellow fruits in the bouquet initially, lemon and peach, followed by floral notes, white blossoms. Strong but extremely well-integrated secondary aromas: This is buttery, with some nuts in it, then there is brioche, lightly toasted. Gains intensity and complexity with time in the glass to arrive at reductive notes of flint stone. On the palate, medium-bodied with medium acidity. Fresh on first taste, not heavy, but never thin either. Superb balance. Lemon, ripe peach, pineapple, with a creamy mouthfeel. Complex, deep, excellent.

Drink from 2025 through 2032.

Appellation:
Langhe DOC

Extensive appellation south of the town of Alba in Piedmont. Around 1,400 hectares of vineyards. In addition to single-varietal wines, in which at least 85% of the specified grape variety must be used, generic white wines (Bianco) and red wines (Rosso) are also produced. For these, there are no strict requirements for the cuvée. There are sweet versions of both Bianco and Rosso, which are called Passito. The Langhe DOC is typically used for the somewhat lower qualities than the more narrowly defined appellations with which the Langhe DOC overlaps, such as Baberba d'Alba DOC, Nebbiolo DOC or even Barbaresco DOCG and Barolo DOCG.
