Produced only in exceptional vintages, this wine is a benchmark for the traditional Rioja Gran Reserva style. While Rioja DOCa regulations mandate a minimum of 60 months' total ageing—including at least twenty-four months in oak and a minimum of twenty-four months in bottle—Faustino I typically exceeds these standards to reach a total ageing period of six to seven years. The 2010 vintage was aged for twenty-six months in American and French oak barrels, followed by an extended period of bottle maturation at the bodega prior to release.

Officially rated 'Excellent' by the Consejo Regulador, the 2010 vintage is distinguished by a balanced growing cycle and moderate yields. A cooler summer preserved acidity, whilst a dry, warm harvest period ensured optimal phenolic ripeness and sanitary condition. The resulting wines exhibit structural longevity, characterised by significant colour depth, fresh fruit profiles, and fine-grained tannins. It is widely considered a benchmark year for age-worthy Rioja, challenging previous stand-out vintages, such as 1964 and 2001.
