2011 Krug Vintage Brut

Description

One of the few prestige vintage cuvées from a challenging, even contradictory, year in Champagne. Fresher and more citrus-driven in style than most Krug wines, though not as "edgy" as the 2008 vintage. Assemblage of Pinot Noir (46 %), Chardonnay (37 %), and Meunier (17 %).

The 2011 vintage in Champagne

The 2011 Champagne vintage was defined by a challenging seasonal inversion. A hot, dry spring precipitated early flowering, followed by a cool, humid summer that delayed maturation and increased rot pressure.

Commencing in late August, the harvest yielded a heterogeneous crop. While select Côte des Blancs Chardonnays displayed resilience, the general profile lacks the structural acidity required for prolonged ageing. Thus, the vintage is regarded as early-maturing and technically inferior to the notable 2008 and 2012 releases.
