Fifth-generation Napa natives John and Maggy Kongsgaard planted the Judge vineyard to Chardonnay in the 1970s on family land east of Napa, releasing their first vintage in 1996. Their son Alex and winemaker Evan Frazier joined a decade later. Production is limited to what the three can craft by hand, focusing on two Chardonnays — The Judge and Napa Valley — with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Albariño made in their cave on Napa's eastern rim. They farm on about 8 hectares today.
