2011 Krug Vintage Brut

Tasting note

2011 Krug Vintage Brut

Pale straw yellow. Thick legs in the glass. Deep aromas of toasted bread, cashew, baked apple, and brioche. Elegant, rather restrained on the nose. On the palate, however, full-bodied and intense, with tension and crisp acidity, plenty of citrus fruit (lemon, mandarin peel), and a touch of apple. Fine mousse. Long-lasting, chalky, with a saline note, pleasant acidity, and great freshness. A success in a challenging vintage. Special.

Tasted bottle with Krug ID 322038.

Drink through 2040.

Tasted by Dominik Müller on Saturday, 22 November 2025.

Wine details

Vintage:
2011

The 2011 Champagne vintage was defined by a challenging seasonal inversion. A hot, dry spring precipitated early flowering, followed by a cool, humid summer that delayed maturation and increased rot pressure.

Commencing in late August, the harvest yielded a heterogeneous crop. While select Côte des Blancs Chardonnays displayed resilience, the general profile lacks the structural acidity required for prolonged ageing. Thus, the vintage is regarded as early-maturing and technically inferior to the notable 2008 and 2012 releases.
